| Minority coaches bill receives final OK |

By James Day A bill that would require Oregon's state universities to interview a minority candidate when hiring head coaches or athletic directors is on its way to the governor. The House passed the bill, which had been amended in the Senate, on a 52-0 vote Tuesday. Gov. Ted Kulongoski is expected to sign the legislation, which would make Oregon the first state to enact such a law. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Mitch Greenlick, D-Portland, and Sen. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Beaverton, is modeled after the Rooney Rule in the National Football league, which has led to an increase in the number of minority head coaches.
