Even in Morris County, far from smoggy city streets, there's still a high risk of asthma for children -- particularly Latinos.

Some, including Puerto Ricans, are genetically predisposed to the condition. But the problem goes beyond genes, local doctors say. Many parents are immigrants who cannot speak sufficient English to describe symptoms to a physician, or don't have a regular pediatrician.
