Privatizing the custodial staff is becoming as big a fad in North Jersey schools as laptops, iPods and back-to-school Uggs.

The latest district to consider the idea is Dumont, which held a contentious public meeting this month. Parents spoke out against it, asserting that private custodians might put children at risk.
