Charging that the state had ac cepted Solaris Health System's reasons for closing Plainfield's only hospital without conducting its own independent research, a small group of protesters staged a final press conference and rally yesterday before today's important vote on the issue.

"There's no discussion of the impact of closing this hospital on the community, on the urban community it serves," said Bennet Zu rofsky, an attorney for the People's Organization for Progress, an advo cacy group that has led the fight to save the 355-bed Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center.
