Five city families are set to benefit from a $1 million contribution to a state tax-credit program.

The money will be funneled to the Unity Square Revitalization Project — a Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, venture — which will use the money to buy five empty, city-owned parcels on which single-family homes will be built.

Sanofi-aventis, a Bridgewater-based pharmaceutical company, agreed to contribute $1 million after a chance meeting with Nancy Finn, Unity Square's program director, earlier this year.
