Like William Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Michael Glascoe was committed to playing the man that he is: a warrior instead of a politician. Consequently, at the end of this month he will end his three years as superintendent of Paterson schools on his own terms and shield.

During his tenure, Paterson schools improved by some important measures, including standardized test scores. He oversaw the creation of a new curriculum and encouraged parents and guardians to become more involved in their children's educations. His achievements inspired the confidence of the elected school board but not the support of Lucille Davy, New Jersey commissioner of education.
