Mayor-elect Wilda Diaz will be sworn in at noon July 1 at Perth Amboy High School on Eagle Avenue.

But the swearing-in isn't the only event the new mayor has planned for that day.

Diaz, along with City Council-elect members Fernando Gonzalez and Kenneth Balut, has three fundraising events wrapped around the inauguration that will run from morning until night.

"I'm trying to retire the debt I have. I owe money on my campaign," said Diaz, who estimates she owes about $50,000, including money owed to Jim Devine, a campaign consultant, as well as printing costs. "I'm fundraising to get out of debt. I need to raise money."

Contributions from $5 to a maximum of $2,600 will be accepted.
