By CHARLES STILE A beaming Bob Yudin launched into a low-key gush-a-thon Tuesday night, praising the political lieutenants who engineered his victory over Robert Ortiz for chairmanship of the Bergen County Republican Organization. But the Wyckoff businessman failed to mention the most important figure in his victory: Goya Foods heir Andy Unanue — avid skier of Rocky Mountain peaks, three-week dabbler in the U.S. Senate race and, most important, friend and client of Rob Ortiz. Forget the phone calls, the fliers and Yudin's hiring of a caterer to serve Republican activists real red meat — freshly grilled cheeseburgers served outside the BCDO backdoor. It was Ortiz's support of Unanue that cooked his reelection campaign. Ortiz conceded the point Tuesday night. |
