By HEATHER HADDON PATERSON -- Too many local youths don't engage in school, causing them to drop out, wind up in juvenile detention and never find a route back. A dozen local educators and youth workers from Passaic County agreed on that point Tuesday night, but offered no single answer as to why. Community leaders were reacting to "Freedom to Learn: School to Prison Pipeline," a documentary produced by the American Civil Liberties Union and directed by activist filmmaker Robert Greenwald. The ACLU of New Jersey is traveling to Newark, Paterson and Camden this year to collect community feedback for a report.
