By DIANE HAINES HALEDON – Milagros Davalos,11, says she was lonely when her family moved from Peru to Haledon. Her elementary school teacher understood and helped to comfort her. Milagros wrote an essay about her teacher's kindness. The teacher, Anna Gonnella, was given a Golden Apple Award Thursday by the Herald News' Newspapers in Education program at a breakfast at La Neve's restaurant. She was among 15 educators who received Golden Apple awards. Milagros nominated Gonnella. "My family came from Peru and when I came to America I missed my cousin and my whole family and friends a lot," she wrote.
