RadioInk.com NEW YORK -- Four of Hispanic radio's top players -- Spanish Broadcasting System, Entravision Communications, Univision Communications, and Border Media Partners -- have banded together to form the Spanish Radio Association, a committee that will address and voice concerns about the "potentially harmful impact" Arbitron's Portable People Meter electronic audience measurement system could have on the Hispanic marketplace. The group on June 6 held its first meeting with Arbitron, during which they stressed their concerns about thorough evaluation of the PPM's capabilities in measuring Hispanic listening before the system is fully implemented. Along with the controversial issue of measurement of Hispanic listeners who may be in the country without documentation, specific issues addressed in the meeting included panel sample sizes; response rates; identification and tracking of panelists' countries of origin; language weighting; cell phone-only usage; measurement of high-density Hispanic areas; sharing of sample information; and meter placement according to ZIP codes.
