The bride wore combat boots and camouflage.

So did the groom.

And, yes, there will be a honeymoon, but not until husband and wife — and her son — return from Iraq.

On any day in northern New Jersey, dozens of couples marry, often with some measure of fanfare, fancy outfits and the certainty of spending time together in the immediate future.

But when Carmen Villegas and Victor Hernandez exchanged wedding vows during a lunch break on Wednesday before a municipal judge in Nutley, both showed up in their New Jersey National Guard uniforms with matching sergeants’ stripes.

As they clasped hands tightly, kissed and embraced, both knew their time together would brief, even on their wedding day.
