DAILY RECORD The Morris County Hispanic-America Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday honored 11 individuals and organizations for their business accomplishments or service to the community. They are: Raul Silva, Business Man of the Year: After working at various New York and New Jersey restaurants following his 1989 arrival from Colombia, in 2006 Silva opened Raul's Empanadas in Morristown. He plans to market his home-made sauces and establish franchises in other locations. Maria Morales, Business Woman of the Year: A former receptionist for a Florida moving company, Morales and her husband own Fast Moving & Storage Co. in Hackettstown. Starting with a truck and a phone number, the company now has a headquarters, two trailers, five tractors and four trucks. Gustavo Chavez, Media Advocate of the Year: Through 4toPoder, his magazine founded in 2005, Chavez is the first Latino journalist to present economic, educational, social and political news to Hispanics in Passaic, Hudson, Bergen and Morris counties. He arrived in the U.S. from Peru in 1994. |
