by Tom Haydon Perth Amboy city officials put up a string of roadblocks in an attempt to stop organizers from holding the Puerto Rican Festival in 2005, a member of the festival committee testified in federal court on Wednesday. "Everything we tried, we were stopped. Every door that was opened, it was just closed to us. Once we think we are giving them what they want, they come back to us for more," Jeniffer Carmona, a member of the Puerto Rican Cultural Committee, said in testimony before U.S. District Judge Katherine Hayden in Newark. In the first day of testimony in the committee's suit against the city, Carmona said a police captain told her Mayor Joseph Vas was upset with committee members for supporting his opponent, Bill Delgado, who was an advisor to the group.
