By Minhaj Hassan MORRISTOWN -- The Speedwell Avenue business district was included in a preservation group's annual Top 10 list of Most Endangered Historic Sites in the state. Preservation New Jersey, a private historic preservation group with no authority, picks 10 sites each year that it believes are threatened. The list also included the Atlantic City Post Office and Sacred Heart Church in Jersey City among others. The group said a proposed redevelopment project on Speedwell, which calls for building between 600 and 800 luxury condominiums, continues a trend in a town where historic relevance takes a backseat to urban renewal. The group said the area still has some 19th and 20th Century structures that would probably be leveled as a result of the project. It also took note that the area's current residents -- mostly Hispanic -- have created a vibrant shopping district. They would more or less be driven out by the redevelopment project, the group said.
