COURIER-POST The state should support a Boys and Girls Club program that has potential to keep students out of gangs and in school. The federal No Child Left Behind school mandate focused needed attention on students with the weakest skills. Yet, too little attention has been focused on students who drop out and are beyond any help offered under the federal law. Boys and Girls clubs around the nation, including the one in Camden, have targeted students likely to drop out since 1991 with its successful Gang Prevention Through Targeted Outreach program. On Friday, Attorney General Anne Milgram announced the state would boost those efforts by combining it with a drop-out prevention program.
