By DANIELLE SHAPIRO The state Board of Education voted Wednesday to suspend Paterson school board member Joseph Atallo for one year for allegedly cursing during board meetings several years ago. The decision, which was to take effect immediately, is one of the longest such penalties ever imposed in New Jersey against a school board member. And other board members worry that Atallo's suspension will hurt Paterson's case to regain control of its school district. Reached by telephone Wednesday evening, Atallo said he was unaware of the decision, but that he was being unfairly punished. "They are wrong on the law and wrong on the facts," he said.
