TRENTON -- The city's Boys and Girls Club recently received a $250,000 grant aimed at encouraging Trenton's youth to explore the fields of science and engineering.

In a joint partnership among the club, The College of New Jersey and Mercer County, the grant will allow the children to learn about specific concepts in engineering -- specifically how they relate to careers such as an urban planner, solar designer and wastewater manager.

John Martinson, president of the Martinson Family Foundation, presented the grant at the college campus last week during an official ceremony.

The program, Trenton's Future Engineers, models similar initiatives started by the foundation in 2004, but creates an after-school and summer camp programs for the city school district's middle-school students.
