PATERSON -- In his run for City Council in the 3rd Ward, which includes Eastside Park, Miguel Diaz is calling for more police patrols and a fence to surround the 64-acre park to prevent crime.

Diaz, 55, said a fence around Eastside Park, the city's biggest and best maintained park, would prevent trespassers who often drink there or use the park for illegal purposes.

Diaz also called for more community policing in the ward to address a recent rise in break-ins.

Diaz announced his candidacy last week, pitting himself against incumbent William McKoy and political newcomer and challenger Kim Freeman.
