The 17 people appointed to a committee charged with picking Newark's next superintendent have strongly held views about what it will take to lead the state's largest school district.

Somehow, committee members will have to overcome differences in ideology and background and, by the end of March, agree on at least one candidate for the job.

Already, the search is moving more slowly than some had hoped. The executive search firm expected to provide the committee with names of possible candidates for the job has yet to be hired and no job postings have been circulated on the Internet or in print.
