TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — While the U.S. troop surge has reduced violence in Iraq, Iraqis have yet to embrace the opportunity to form a unified national government, Sen. Robert Menendez said Saturday during a visit to Baghdad. "All of this was for the purpose of giving the Iraqis the opportunity to move forward, and they have not taken the opportunity presented to them," he said. "That's the big challenge, to get a sense that people are committed to a government of national unity." Menendez, D-N.J., met Saturday with Gen. David Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Baghdad. He also visited with soldiers from New Jersey on the first day of a scheduled two-day visit.
