Democrats and Republicans in New Jersey will go to the polls Feb. 5 to select their nominee for president, but they will do so in very different ways.

Democrats will elect 70 delegates to the national convention in Denver and determine which presidential candidates get those and 37 delegates to be named later.

Republicans will vote for a presidential nominee, period. They will not elect the delegates to their convention until June, when New Jersey will have a second primary election. All 52 delegates to the GOP convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul will be pledged to the winner of next month's vote.

Democrats have an elaborate system to ensure their delegation is divided as evenly as possible between women and men and reflects the demographic makeup of the state.
