BY CHANDRA M. HAYSLETT Amanda Vasquez is looking forward to having a leg up on her competition when she applies to nursing school in two years. The sophomore at the Middlesex County Academy of Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences spends her days working with mock patients who are programmed with conditions, such as asthma, which she tries to diagnose. "Since I want to work in the medical field, this gives me more opportunity. This school trains you and I'll be ahead in college," she said. Vasquez is one of 80 students in the health program at Woodbridge Vocational High School that will officially accept its first class of freshmen in September. There's space for 40 students who must pass an interview and entrance exam for admittance. |
