It's the highest-grossing Spanish film of all time - so it's surprising, then, that Juan Antonio Bayona's "The Orphanage" was a movie that no producer wanted to make.

"This is a project that no production company wanted to pick up," says Bayona, 32. "Ten years ago, the screenwriter [Sergio Sánchez, a graduate of NYU's Tisch School] was trying to get the financing and he couldn't get it."
